Few are vital, Many are trivial - “The 80-20 Rule”

A small learnin with TQM………..Just wanted to share it across!!!!

The Pareto principle (also known as the 80-20 rule, the law of the vital few and the principle of factor sparsity) states that, for many events, 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. Business management thinker Joseph M. Juran suggested the principle and named it after Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, While some may claim that Juran’s broad attribution of this scientific observation to Pareto is inaccurate, Pareto’s Principle or "Pareto’s Law" as it is sometimes called, can be a very effective business tool – one that can help us manage more effectively. The 80/20 Rule means that in anything a few (20 percent) are vital and many (80 percent) are trivial. In Pareto’s case it meant 20 percent of the people owned 80 percent of the wealth. In Juran’s initial work he identified 20 percent of the defects causing 80 percent of the problems. Project Managers know that 20 percent of the work (the first 10 percent and the last 10 percent) consume 80 percent of your time and resources. You can apply the 80/20 Rule to almost anything, from the science of management to the physical world around us.

How it helps us

The value of the Pareto Principle in management is in reminding us to stay focused on the "20 percent that matters". Of all the tasks performed throughout the day, one could say (based on Pareto’s Principle) that only 20 percent really matter. Those tasks in the 20 percent very likely will produce 80 percent of our results. Thus, it’s critical that we identify and focus on those things. When the fire drills surrounding the "crisis of the day" begin to eat up precious time, remind yourself of the critical 20 percent you need to focus on. If anything in the list of activities and action items has to fall by the wayside – left undone – be sure it isn’t listed in that critical 20 percent. Managing Smart, Working Smart….On the Right Things

There are many lessons in management – one being that it is not only important to do things right, but also to ensure you’re doing the right things. Pareto’s Principle should serve as a reminder to us to stay focused on investing 80 percent of our time and energy on the 20 percent of work that’s really important. It’s not just important to "work hard" and "work smart", but also to work smart on the right things.Practice doesn’t make a man perfect……Perfect practice does!!!!!!

Parting...

Would this deep pain Spare all memory……
The greif of a nearness lost
That which is now resting
In a night
In a light of quiet kind
And it will always know
That it is loved from afar……
Does it bring sorrow…To know someone close to ur heart has left you….Or does it make you stronger by some means or the other and gets that void clear off ur mind and move ahead with ur life…..
Like the meeting of the seagulls and the waves, We met
The seagulls fly off, Waves roll by………And we depart!!!!

Sometimes...Life...

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, they serve some sort of purpose, to teach you a lesson or help figure out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be - your roommate, neighbor, professor, long lost friend, lover or even a complete stranger who, when you lock eyes with them, you know that very moment that they will affect your life in some profound way. And sometimes things happen to you and at the time they may seem horrible, painful and unfair, but in reflection you realize that without overcoming those obstacles, you would have never realized your potential, strength, will power or heart.

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means of good or bad luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness and sheer stupidity - all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without these small tests, if they be events, illnesses or relationships, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere. Safe and comfortable but dull and utterly pointless.

The people you meet who affect your life and the successes and downfalls you experience - they are the ones who create who you are. Even the bad experiences can be learned from. Those lessons are the hardest and probably the most important ones.If someone hurts you, betrays you or breaks your heart, forgive them for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious to whom you open your heart to. If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because they love you, but because they are teaching you to love and opening your heart and eyes to things you would have never seen or felt without them.Make every day count. Appreciate every moment and take from it everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again.

Talk to people you have never talked to before, and actually listen. Let yourself fall in love, break free and set your sights high. Hold your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself, for if you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will believe in you either. You can make of your life anything you wish. Create your own life and then go out and live it.

Life finds its value by the claims of the world and its worth by the claims of love

Am I right?? I wonder...

Long nights I have had thinking of what people think when they do something…..There are many things one does all round a day….Do we really think of it before we are done with it? I do many things and almost 95% of them are those which is against my conscience. I feel what Im doing is wrong but still I go ahead and do it. Well…….be it for good or bad when I try to change myself to do what I really want to do rather than doing it for the namesake I get caught in a huge dilemma. When I used to do things against my will everything used to be smooth……N now when I do something that gives me self satisfaction I face obstacles…. .. I dunno is it something wrong with me alone or does this happen with everyone???? I wonder……Do I have companions on this journey of mine????

Why am I wrong again n again??

The Romans used to say: Video meliora probaque deteriara sequo. I t means “I can see what I ought and ought not to do and I go and do the latter”. How many times has this been true for you? Nor is it only our actions which are often self destructive but our feelings and beliefs about ourselves too. Little if anything limits people’s achievement more than their own self doubts and these are often unfounded. Why do people defeat themselves in this way??

Why do some people always seem to be trying but never quite making it? Why do some people seem to have more crises than others? Why do some people always end up in bad relationships with violent or unreliable partners? Why do some people seem to have more accidents than most? Why so some seem to have all the bad luck and little or none of the good??

In the most conspicuous cases its not due to lack of intelligence, skill, will power or resources. If they had little intelligence they would be unlikely to try in the first place. No the reasons are more subtle than this.

As people develop, they begin to air for certain things in life and learn how to go about achieving them. Rarely, though, do they learn to control the subtle forces which undermine their efforts.

How often have you seen a glaring opportunity but avoided it, thinking, ‘If its that certain why haven’t others taken it up?’ Then it has ‘come up trumps’ and you have sworn you will not let the chance slip by again – but you have.

Ok. So we know what’s wrong, but what can we do about it? Does anyone have a say???

While I breathe, I hope

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past.... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.... We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you.... we are in charge of our Attitudes.

Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams. Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Unless your heart, your soul, and your whole being are behind every decision you make, the words from your mouth will be empty, and each action will be meaningless. Truth and confidence are the roots of happiness. Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, that is way great spiritual giants are produced.
For everything you have missed, you have gained something else, and for everything you gain, you lose something else.

Sometimes it's the smallest decisions that can change your life forever.
Perhaps our eyes need to be washed by our tears once in a while, so that we can see Life with a clearer view again. If you will call your troubles experiences, and remember that every experience develops some latent force within you, you will grow vigorous and happy, however adverse your circumstances may seem to be.

I do believe that when we face challenges in life that are far beyond our own power, it's an opportunity to build on our faith, inner strength, and courage. I've learned that how we face challenges plays a big role in the outcome of them. A great attitude does much more than turn on the lights in our worlds; it seems to magically connect us to all sorts of serendipitous opportunities that were somehow absent before the change.

Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength.

Carpe diem! Rejoice while you are alive; enjoy the day; live life to the fullest; make the most of what you have. It is later than you think.

Dum spiro, spero

Life is all Fuzzy!!!

It feels so very true! Every morning I wake up and see that we have plenty to be achieved and there’s so less time….Every man aspires for the horizon! He ponders over the accomplishments in his life, and contemplates on the opportunities that he has let pass by and at times wonder if he should regret.

And in the process we stumble upon the paths we took or rather need to take in life to reach those goals…

There are things you don’t learn in a classroom, and if your circumstances aren’t rich in the sort of input you need, you may not learn them at all. Unless you have a home where these things are specifically talked about and reinforced, or a mentor or guide of some sort, you may not be able to figure out where the road is, let alone how to take it, or what direction.

"To every man there openeth
A way, and ways, and a way.
And the high soul climbs the high way,
And the low soul gropes the low:
And in between, on the misty flats,
The rest drift to and fro.
But to every man there openeth
A high way and a low,
And every man decideth
The way his soul shall go."¬ John Oxenham

It’s all about what we ever wanted in life…A lot of times when you’re down, it’s easy to look up and say ‘here we go again. Pull yourself together, persevere, and obviously were not going to take it as a loss. It’s a lesson and a check point in life where the individual learns a vital piece of information which others may have missed. At the end it all boils down to one thing. Can I stand up again n move ahead in life on the same path I took?

Yeah people may quarrel over the path taken being good or bad et al. But there’s nothing right or wrong in this world. It’s just the perception tats different from person to person!

Alrite so I chose to move ahead come what may….Next what do I see lying ahead of me? So there lies another cross road waiting with arms wide open….Boy o Boy wait a minute I have something more here in store…..Experience! True……Where ever we go we take a little of each other...

"I am a part of all that I have met;
Yet all experience is an arch where through
Gleams that untravelled world, whose margin fades
For ever and for ever when I move.
How dull it is to pause, to make an end,
To rust unburnished, not to shine in use!
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."¬ Alfred Lord Tennyson

So that’s where the never ending journey begins again….afresh, anew…. N yeah again the same fuzzy crossroad one would meet, aaaand......Miles to go before you sleep!
